Troopers from the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section, New Bedford Police, members of the United States Marshals Service, members of a US Marshals Task Force, and Massachusetts Parole Department Officers this morning located and apprehended a man wanted for a homicide outside an Austin, Texas night club.

The suspect, DENIS ALEXIS OCAMPO-MALDONADO, 23, a.k.a. MARKO CASTRO, was found in a second floor apartment at a building at 2 Felton St., New Bedford. Troopers transported him to the State Police-Dartmouth Barracks, where he was booked as a fugitive from justice on an Austin, Texas, warrant for Murder-First Degree.

The arrest followed the fatal shooting of a 23-year-old Jocson Antonio Zelaya Blanco in the parking lot of the El Nocturno Night Club in Austin early on the morning of Sept. 12. Austin Police detectives identified OCAMPO-MALDONADO as the shooter and obtained the arrest warrant the next day. Investigators learned that the suspect, a native of Honduras, had ties to New Bedford. MSP’s Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section, US Marshals, and New Bedford Police developed information that OCAMPO-MALDONADO may be preparing to flee the US. The joint investigation then identified the 2 Felton St. building as an address of interest. They set up surveillance of the address and observed a vehicle with Texas license plates in the vicinity.

Early this morning the apprehension team, joined by a uniformed Trooper from the MSP Troop D Community Action Team, established a perimeter around the building and went to the door. They were granted entry as some occupants attempted to provoke them with threats and insults. Ignoring the attempted provocation, the Troopers, Marshals, and Officers searched the property and ultimately located OCAMPO-MALDONADO in the second-floor apartment.
