WHAT: On Saturday, July 13, the Buzzards Bay Coalition will hold its 20th annual Buzzards Bay Swim, a 1.2 mile open-water swim across outer New Bedford Harbor. It is a signature outdoor event held by the Coalition, a non-profit, community-based organization dedicated to restoring clean water, protecting natural lands, and promoting the use and enjoyment of the Bay and its watershed for all. This year’s Buzzards Bay Swim is expected to be the largest in the event’s 20-year history, with 328 swimmers registered to participate.
WHEN: Saturday, July 13
Swimmer check-in and warm-up: 6:00-7:15 a.m.
Swim start: 7:25 a.m.
Awards ceremony: 9:30 a.m.
WHERE: Start line: Davy’s Locker Beach, 1480 E. Rodney French Blvd., New Bedford
Finish line and awards ceremony: Fort Phoenix State Reservation, Fairhaven
WHO: 328 swimmers ages 12 to 73 will prove that the Buzzards Bay Swim is for every age, ability, shape, size and fitness level. By participating, swimmers will bring awareness to the importance of clean water and raise a projected $160,000 for the Coalition’s work. The Buzzards Bay Swim draws a wide range of participants, including serious competitors, first-timers, families, community teams and everyone in between.
