Stoughton man veers off road and kills 74-year old pedestrian

Today, at about 11:30 a.m., a vehicle traveled off the road and struck a pedestrian on High Street in Canton, resulting in one fatality.

Preliminary investigation by Sergeant Robert Fries indicates that a 48-year-old Stoughton man was traveling on High Street in a 2016 GMC Sierra pickup truck when, for reasons still under investigation, his vehicle left the roadway and struck RALPH HAWKINS, 74, of Canton, who was standing on the property of 147 High Street. HAWKINS was transported to Boston Medical Center where he was subsequently pronounced deceased.

This crash remains under investigation with assistance from Troop H detectives, members of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, Crime Scene Services Section, and members of the Canton Police Department. No charges have been filed at this time.

State Police were assisted on scene by Canton Fire and EMS.
