Experience the 1920s Prohibition speakeasy jazz era at “Spinner Celebrates: 35 Years” Fundraiser at Fort Taber Community Center located in picturesque Fort Taber Park in New Bedford on Saturday, November 5th from 4pm to 8pm. The theme for the evening will be “Travel back in time to a Prohibition Speakeasy.” The event promises to be the “Bee’s Knees” (which means terrific and cool in 1920s jazz lingo).

Rummage through your attic for your favorite flapper dress, string of pearls, fedoras, striped zoot suits, and spats. Although 1920s dress is optional, guests are encouraged to add to the merriment by wearing period attire. A photo booth will be set up providing boas, hats, feathers and other fun accessories to capture the festive spirit. Charlie Chaplin, the “Little Tramp,” will make a celebrity appearance strolling and entertaining guests.

The festivity includes (shhh…..) an open-bar with wine, beer, champagne cocktail and a signature drink tended by OCD Beverages. Distinctive seafood, meat and vegetarian fare will be catered by M & C Café. Partygoers can dance “The Charleston” and “Shimmy” like your sister Kate to the swing jazz music of the era performed by The Meadowlarks. Topping the event will be “Hip to the Jive”(cool) Live Auctions showcasing masterful works of art and artisanry created by local artists and exotic trips to far-off destinations (such as Boston, Newport and Martha’s Vineyard). A “Cat’s Pajamas” (great) Silent Auction and Raffle will give guests the opportunity to win exceptional prizes and gift-crates filled with unique items and fantastic gift certificates donated by local artists, merchants and restaurants.

Tickets are priced at $75 — (guests must say the password to gain entrance.) Tickets can be purchased at www.spinnerpub.com or by calling (508) 994-4564 through October 28. There is limited seating; early reservations are recommended. Proceeds will support Spinner’s educational projects and upcoming books, including A Picture History of New Bedford ~ Volume Three.
