Some facts among rumors regarding Mondays fatal incident in New Bedford parking lot

There has been a ton of speculation regarding the fatal incident that left one dead in the Knuckleheads parking lot in New Bedford on Monday night (August 7th). Amid the rumors, here are some quick facts about what we know at the moment.

The victim

The victim is John Blomgren, 36, of Fairhaven. Once his name was released, residents quickly linked him to a 2006 fatal stabbing. He was convicted of manslaughter and served his sentence, but as of now, there is no evidence that this has anything to do with what occurred on August 7th.

The Driver

The name of the driver has not been released but it is a 56-year-old Dartmouth man. He remained on scene and rendered aid to the victim before paramedics arrived. According to the District Attorney’s office, no criminal charges have been filed.

Witnesses

Several witnesses on the scene stated that the victim was allegedly heavily intoxicated and was reportedly kicked out of the bar. Witnesses report that the victim may have caused his own death by allegedly attempting to force entry into a moving vehicle.

Law Enforcement

New Bedford Police and Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the district attorney’s office are investigating this incident. We have reached out to the NBPD for a statement and are awaiting a response.

Rumors

There are no reports of a shooting, stabbing, or brawl occurring during this incident.
