Short police chase leads to arrests and drug seizure in New Bedford’s south end

On November 18, New Bedford Police Narcotics Detectives seized approximately 450 grams of cocaine and $4745 after a brief vehicle and foot chases in the area of Padanaram Ave. and Cove. Rd in New Bedford south end. The street value of the narcotics is estimated to be over $45,000.

Police report that an unmarked cruiser was struck during the incident before a male suspect exited the vehicle, and fled the scene, as the female driver continued to lead police on a vehicle chase. After a brief foot chase, detectives located the male in a nearby shed.

As a result of the incident 38-year old Crystal Peloquin from North Providence, Rhode Island, and 39-year old Orlando Valentin of Westerly, Rhode Island were arrested. Peloquin was charged with drug trafficking, failure to stop, and reckless operation of a motor vehicle. Valentin was charged with drug trafficking and is on probation in Rhode Island already for a narcotics-related case.

Detective Lavar Gilbert led the investigation.
