Route 18 Ribbon Cutting Ceremony – 20 September

Senator Mark Montigny is pleased to announce that the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the Route 18 renovation project shall be held on September 20, 2013 in New Bedford at 2:00 p.m. at the corner of Union Street and Front Street. Joining Senator Montigny at the ceremony shall be Secretary Richard Davey of the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, Massachusetts Department of Transportation Highway Division Administrator, Frank DiPaolo, the area’s legislative delegation and Mayor Jon Mitchell and other city officials.

Senator Montigny, who has long led legislative efforts to secure state funding to enhance Route 18 and Downtown New Bedford’s infrastructure, including the Star Store building, in order to foster economic development and the creation of arts and cultural district, stated “ I am happy to welcome Secretary Davey to New Bedford on September 20th to celebrate the completion of the Route 18 project which has transformed the road into a pedestrian friendly signature gateway into the Downtown for tourists and residents alike. I thank the Governor and the Secretary for their commitment to New Bedford and for ensuring that the funds I first secured years ago were spent wisely and fruitfully. The finished project certainly will benefit the Downtown and its Arts and Cultural District for years to come”.
