Shortly before noon today Trooper Joseph Gray, a member of the Massachusetts State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section, was traveling on Massachusetts Avenue in Boston when he observed a man and a woman walking toward the intersection with Northampton Street.
Trooper Gray recalled seeing a photo of apparently the same woman on a Quincy Police social media page, where she was featured as a suspect involved in the recent assault and robbery of a 92-year-old woman in that city. That suspect was identified by Quincy Police as KAYLA NOEL-BROWN, 26, of Quincy.
Trooper Gray reversed his direction at the next intersection to get a closer look at the woman. After confirming a striking resemblance to the suspect photo, he exited his cruiser and approached the pair. The suspect wanted in the Quincy assault
The woman identified herself as “Nancy Brown” of Quincy. Trooper Gray contacted Quincy Police Detective A.J. Carthas, and then queried a photo of assault suspect KAYLA NOEL-BROWN. The photo of suspect KAYLA NOEL-BROWN matched the woman standing in front of Trooper Gray who had given her name as Nancy Brown.
Trooper Gray advised the woman and the man of their Miranda rights. Further investigation at the scene revealed that the man with BROWN as MARKELL CRUZ, 27, Somerville
Quincy Police responded to the scene and took custody of NOEL-BROWN and CRUZ. They were transported to the Quincy and, following further investigation, Quincy detectives determined that both were involved in the Nov. 19 assault and robbery of the elderly woman.
Quincy Police charged both NOEL-BROWN and CRUZ with unarmed robbery of an elderly person, assault and battery on an elderly person, and conspiracy to commit a crime. They are being held on bail at the Quincy Police Station and are expected to be arraigned Monday in the Quincy District Court.
