Opinion: City needs to clean up drug dealing, prostitution and racing in the north end

Th following letter was submitted to us.

“I would love to see the police and mayor clean up Phillips Ave. from Acushnet Ave to North Front Street. The parking lot behind Cafe Nimo is a hot spot for druggies to shoot up and do drug deals. They do it out in the open and behind the dumpster not to mention the amount of times in one day I see prostitutes performing oral sex on their johns or the fact the prostitutes try to get in my company’s cars or approach someone coming to visit someone in the neighborhood.

This is ridiculous! It is so bad I can’t wait to move. I have called the Mayors office and the police numerous times and nothing is done, but yet they post how they are walking around the city because they care. What that says to me is that they don’t care about this neighborhood. I have a front porch I can’t even use because all you see is druggies and prostitution. The prostitutes even walk right on my porch.

On top of all that you have dirt bikes, 4-wheelers and mopeds racing up and down the street all hours of the day and night. My living room faces the parking lot and I hate having my blinds open do to all the stuff I see every time I look out my window. I would love to see the mayor and police chief address these issues.” – A concerned citizen

  1. What you are witnessing is decades worth of failed liberal policies. New bedfords decline has accelerated quite a bit in the past single decade and is only going to get worse as the rest of the country gets too expensive to live. Do yourself a favor and prioritize moving away at all costs.

  2. Same racing in front of wamsutta lofts and the echo between the rte 18 wall and building is amplified

  3. I’m sure mpst of these drug dealers and drug users have children too. The Department of Children and Families Conducts their business on North front Street… However, they’re not out there investigating whether these people have children or not. I have called the police as well regarding a drug dealer\user whom has 5 children and nothing has been done. He continues to use and distribute drugs from his house not getting caught. Something has got to change. DCF as well as the Police need to stop being lazy and against the time and paperwork to clean up these streets.
