The spectacular Science on a Sphere® is the perfect device to illustrate a collection of soccer ball designs and data, developed by the Advanced Visualization Lab at Indiana University. Since 1933, World Cup soccer ball designs have incorporated the latest in research and technology, and each image slide includes interesting data about the design as well as the game.
For instance, did you know that both real and synthetic leathers were used in the 1982 ball? Or that the first colored ball was the 1998 “Tricolore” used in France?
Also available for display on the Science on a Sphere® is a map with a tally for number of World Cup appearances by various countries around the world. Brazil, host country for the 2014 games, has appeared 20 times in World Cup competition: Do you know how many times they have won? Stop by the Ocean Explorium and find out!
We understand that the Ocean Explorium may have limited appeal for sports fans, but we think everyone will love this special World Cup presentation.
