There is something cool (or hot and stuffy) about thousands of Santa Clauses running a 5k. On December 10th, 2011 that is exactly what will happen in downtown New Bedford. Area residents can participate by registering for the race and purchasing a Santa suit. The fun run is open to all ages and all levels of runners. The run kicks of at 11am starting at the New Bedford City Hall and making a turn around at Pope’s Island Marina.
Registration costs $35 and includes a Santa suit. Geoff Smith, a two-time Boston Marathon winner and event organizer states that this is a fun event and no running background is necessary. “The vast majority of people entering will not be serious runners,” Geoff states on the website. “The Santa Sightings 5K Fun Run is all about having fun so if you run, jog, walk or crawl, we really don’t mind.”
