District Attorney Tom Quinn today announced the conviction of a 37-year-old New Bedford man, who had been accused of sexually abusing a young girl during the course of a five year period.
Chad Mandeville, of New Bedford, will serve 10 years in state prison after pleading guilty in April to charges of rape, rape of a child, statutory rape of a child, indecent assault and battery on a child under 14, indecent assault and battery on a person 14 or over, exhibiting a child in a nude/lascivious state and possession of child pornography.
Mr. Mandeville sexually abused the girl, beginning when she was 12 years old and continuing until she was 17. The victim’s relation to Mr. Mandeville will not be disclosed to protect her identity, but all incidents occurred in the City of New Bedford.
The defendant forced the victim to perform oral sex on him and had vaginal intercourse with her as well on many occasion. The defendant also videotaped himself with the victim, as well as had her pose in certain positions so he could photograph her in the nude. The victim eventually disclosed the abuse to her teacher at school, which led to his arrest by new Bedford Police in June, 2013.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Kristen Spooner, of District Attorney Quinn’s Special Victims Unit.
In addition to the 10 year state prison sentence, Superior Court Judge Raymond P. Veary also sentenced the defendant to seven years of supervised probation upon his release from prison. During probation, the defendant must wear a GPS monitoring device, have no contact with the victim, no unsupervised contact with children under the age of 16, must register as a sex offender and must undergo sex offender counseling.
