City of New Bedford encourages preparedness for looming storm

“The City is encouraging residents to use caution in anticipation of high winds and heavy rains starting this evening and into Friday. New Bedford is currently under a high wind warning from Friday, Dec. 23 until Saturday, Dec. 24, and under a coastal flood watch effective Friday, Dec. 23. Winds are forecast to peak on Friday afternoon. Read more about the storm here.

Residents are urged to avoid City beaches, CoveWalk, HarborWalk, and Fort Taber during the storm. Residents are also encouraged to ensure that loose objects in areas around their homes are secured.

Mayor Mitchell encouraged: “Taking a few sensible precautions and exercising common sense will help ensure everyone enjoys a safe and healthy holiday season.”

• To report a downed power line, medical, fire or other emergencies please dial 911.

• Eversource is prepared to address any damage and outages resulting from the storm and encourages customers whose electric service is affected to call 1-800-592-2000. Eversource strongly urges people to stay away from all down wires and to report them immediately.

• New Bedford Police Department can also be reached on its non-emergency line at (508) 991-6350″ -City of New Bedford.
