New Bedford Police seize 3 guns in separate incidences in just 2 days

“New Bedford police officers have taken 3 illegal guns off the streets in the last 2 days.

On Wednesday, July 27, detectives conducted a traffic stop on Cedar Street, leading to the arrest of NATHAN ALMEIDA, 44, of 625 County Street. A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of a 9mm Taurus firearm loaded with 12 rounds of ammunition.

Additionally, two plastic bags of cocaine and a digital scale were found.

ALMEIDA has an extensive criminal history with previous convictions for armed robbery, carjacking, and assault & battery among others. ALMEIDA is now charged with possession to distribute a class B drug and possession of carrying a loaded, large capacity firearm without a license. Detective Timothy Soares was the investigating officer.

Later that same day, a traffic stop led to the arrest of LUIS MIGUEL MORAIS MARTINS, 21, of 241 Court Street #2. MARTINS was found to be in possession of a 45 caliber Ruger handgun without a license. Officer Jacob Oliveira was the arresting officer.

On Thursday, July 28th, gang unit detectives responded to a fight in progress at the Tallman St./Ashley Blvd. intersection. Reports indicated that a firearm was involved.

Upon arrival, one male fled from the scene but was successfully apprehended and found to be in possession of a loaded 9mm firearm. He was identified as CAMRON MACKLIN, 18, of 235 Clifford St.

MACKLIN was placed under arrest and charged with the firearm, as well as assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. As a result of further investigation, two other suspects were charged in connection with the incident. They were identified as KYLE DANIELS, 18 and LUIS RAFAEL GARCIA, 19, both of New Bedford and both charged with Assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

The arresting officer was Det. Samuel Algarin-Mojica.
