The New Bedford police department is announcing the highly anticipated return of its citizen’s police academy program.

After a lengthy hiatus precipitated by the covid pandemic, we are happy to announce the program’s return on September 7th, 2022. Each Wednesday night, for ten weeks, a group of approximately 20 citizens will be selected to join us at police headquarters on Rockdale Ave. Presentations will be given by members of our various units which are designed to give the attendees a more in-depth look into the inner workings of our department.

In addition, participants will be certified in CPR, spend a Saturday morning shooting with our firearms instructors, tour facilities, and ride along with police officers out in the field.

The program has been very well received in the past and we are excited for its return.

To apply, please visit our website here. Click on “Forms” and scroll down to the citizen’s academy. Fill out the appropriate paperwork and send it electronically to scott.carola@newbedfordpd.com.

If you would prefer to return the hard copies of the form, please place them in an envelope marked with “Lt. Scott Carola, Citizen’s academy” and turn them in to the records desk staff at 871 Rockdale Ave.
