New Bedford Police officer turns negative story into a positive one

“New Bedford Police Officer Manuel Sequeira has seized an opportunity to turn a negative into a positive for a city youth.

On Thursday, a young man’s bike was stolen from the yard of his north-end residence. Officer Sequeira responded to the scene to take the report. Seeing that the bike was very important to the boy, the officer gave his best effort to scan the surrounding neighborhoods in an attempt to locate it. Unfortunately, the officer also knew that recovering the bike under these circumstances was unlikely.

Rather than throw up his hands, Officer Sequeira rolled up his sleeves. He enlisted the assistance of his fellow patrol officers at Station #3 and took a collection that would cover the cost of a new bike that they could surprise the young man with.

The bike was purchased and presented yesterday, much to everyone’s happiness. Please help us in giving a round of applause ? to Officer Sequeira and his great team of patrol officers in the north-end.

A good deed brightened a dark day. ☺️???”-New Bedford Police Department.
