New Bedford Police make arrest in July 17 shooting death

33-year old Ricardo Velez-Gonzalez was arrested Wednesday afternoon in Eastham and charged with manslaughter in connection with last Friday’s fatal shooting of Keven Rocha on Margin Street in New Bedford. The defendant was held in jail overnight and arraigned today in New Bedford District Court on the manslaughter charge.

New Bedford Police Chief Police Chief Joseph Cordeiro commended the New Bedford Police and Massachusetts State Police detectives for their determined efforts and hard work on the case. They continue to actively investigate the fatal shooting that occurred in the early morning of July 17.

New Bedford Police responded to 17 Margin St. early that morning and discovered Rocha had been fatally shot inside of the multi-family building.
