New Bedford Police launches “Operation Safe Street” to combat dirt bike, ATV riders

The City of New Bedford Police Department has launched “Operation Safe Streets,” a campaign that plans on taking the roads and streets of the City back to commuters and pedestrians.

Massachusetts has had an uptick of people driving their ATVs, dirt bikes, and other Off-Read Vehicles in the streets, and usually, that also entails breaking traffic ordinances and laws like speeding, ignoring red lights and stop signs, pulling wheelies, and performing other stunts, and driving aggressively. With no regard for cars, trucks, motorcyclists, and pedestrians they regularly endanger others.

As is often the case, these riders are not only ignoring traffic laws but many vehicles are stolen and stored within the City.

If you have any information on the erratic operation of ATVs, dirt bikes, or other off-road vehicles being driven around our city illegally, where these vehicles are being stored, or about any individuals involved in illegal street riding you can call the New Bedford Police Department’s anonymous tip line at 508-99-CRIME or call the Detective Division at 508-991-6300 Ext. 79519.
