***VISITING ELDERLY WOMEN***

The New Bedford police department’s outreach program continues as we seek to check on elderly women living alone in our community.

If you know of an elderly woman who may be living in seclusion and might benefit from a visit from our officers, please contact us. We address issues they might have, check on their locks and alarms, and just provide an overall sense of security that they might be lacking.

It’s a great program but we need your referrals to help make it work!” -New Bedford Police Department.

  1. Any programs like this for elderly men? I know a few gentlemen that would benefit from something like this. Doesn’t seem like living in seclusion is an issue experienced only by women. Men need support too.

  2. The police need to check on the elderly women who live in the old New Bedford hotel building on Pleasant Street.
We had a family member there who was visited frequently by a woman who used the name Shirley Pina, maybe in her 40s or 50s. She befriended our family member and when she died, our family was going to remove her furnishings but instead, this Shirley Pina, stripped the apartment, selling anything she could and also stoled her money that was to be used for funeral expenses.
She went so far as to have the deceased cremated by her son that worked at the Rock Funeral home.
When done, she called our family and said to come get her, she didn’t want her remains in her car!
This Shirley Pina was last seen with another elderly woman. She seems to go from one to another and bilks them for what she can get out of them! This is blatant elder abuse!
