At approximately, 7:15 am the New Bedford Fire Department, New Bedford Police Department, and New Bedford EMS responded to reports of a serious accident on Route 18 north in New Bedford.
Upon arrival, first responders discovered two vehicles – a large tow truck and a small silver SUV – with significant damage about 20′ feet apart. Skid marks could be seen stretching across approximately 40′ of road.
The small SUV was driving east on Elm Street and the commercial truck was driving South on Rt. 18 when they collided. Preliminary investigation suggests that one of the vehicles ran a red light.
Reports by eyewitnesses on scene stated that at least one person has died. This is an ongoing story.
