New Bedford Police Department’s popular citizens academy returns in May

Here’s your chance to ride along in a cruiser, obtain CPR certification, learn about firearms and experience the rewards and challenges of being a New Bedford police officer.

Sign up for the Citizens Police Academy, which returns in May by popular demand.

The academy will be held at police headquarters, 871 Rockdale Ave. Exact dates and times will be announced at a later date.

Anyone 18 or older who is interested should complete an application which could be obtained on the New Bedford Police Department’s web page. Visit newbedfordpd.com and click on forms, then citizens police academy.

Applications may be dropped off at any police station: Station 1, 572 Pleasant St.; Station 2, 168 Cove St.; Station 3: 781 Ashley Blvd.; and police headquarters, 871 Rockdale Ave. Applications may also be emailed to Ricard.rezendes@Newbedfordpd.com or lisa.catterall@Newbedfordpd.com.
