The New Bedford Police Department would like to acknowledge the recent brave actions of veteran Ofc. Michael Carrier.
Ofc. Carrier was conducting a wellness check at the residence of a reportedly suicidal person. While entering the home, he observed the male seated in an adjacent room, with the barrel of a pistol in his mouth. Ofc. Carrier attempted to engage the man in conversation to establish a rapport. The man would not respond.
Acting quickly, decisively, and with great risk of peril to himself, Ofc. Carrier seized an opportunity to move in, take hold of the weapon, and disarm the man, who was later taken to the hospital for treatment.
Ofc. Carrier’s heroic actions during this call were exemplary. His commitment to the safety and well-being of this distressed person was extraordinary. Please help us in commending Ofc. Carrier for a job well done.”
