“New Bedford patrol officers have taken an illegal gun off the streets following a late-night ShotSpotter activation.

On Tuesday, November 29th, patrol officers responded to the activation which indicated a shot had been fired in the area of Hawthorn St. and Irving St. Upon arrival, spent shell casings were located on the ground. It also appeared as though a tree and street sign had been damaged by a vehicle.

As officers investigated, a vehicle with front-end damage was observed in the area and subsequently stopped at the Bedford St./Cottage St. intersection. The vehicle was occupied by two males, Mr. PRESTON PEDROSA, 29, and Mr. CHRISTIAN REYES, 31, both of New Bedford. As the result of a subsequent search, PEDROSA was found to be in possession of a 9mm handgun with a high-capacity magazine. REYES was found to be in possession of a knife. Both males were taken into custody.

PEDROSA was charged with possession of a firearm without a license, possession of a high-capacity feeding device, and unlawful carrying of a knife. He was also found to have an active warrant for his arrest.

REYES was charged with unlawfully carrying a knife and leaving the scene of property damage.

The arresting officers were Ofc. Manuel Sequeira and Emmanuel Powers-Silveira.
