“On June 25, 2021, Narcotics and Major Crimes detectives executed a search warrant at 10 Washington St., #2. During this search, detectives discovered crack cocaine, cash, ammunition, and a loaded, semi-automatic, .45 caliber pistol with the serial numbers defaced. The target of this investigation was a 16-year-old juvenile.

While on scene, detectives generated further information which subsequently tied this juvenile into two recent shooting incidents. Both shootings occurred at Montes playground. The first occurred on May 23, 2021, the second occurred on June 12, 2021. During both incidents’ vehicles were damaged, and on June 12 one of the bullets entered through the window of a nearby apartment building.

The juvenile currently has an open case in New Bedford district court for assault with a firearm earlier in the year.

The New Bedford Police Department remains committed in its continual efforts to seize illegal weapons from the streets.
