New Bedford police arrest four on drug charges in south end

Last night while conducting street surveillance in the south end of New Bedford, narcotics detectives made four arrests.

At approximately 7pm, detectives observed a drug transaction in the area of Ruth and McGurk Streets. Xavier Thompson was observed selling cocaine to William Reed. Both males were stopped and taken into custody. Nearby, officers found 19 bags of cocaine and an additional bag was found in the possession of Reed. $173 in cash was also seized. Both males will be arraigned this morning in New Bedford district court.

A half hour later, narcotics officers observed Victor Perez approach a silver Buick in the area of Rockland and Acushnet Ave. He sold Percocet tablets to the female driver who drove off and detectives were familiar with. As officers approached Mr. Perez in front of his home on South Second Street, he threw a handful of pills away. Detectives gathered 39 Percocet tablets from the area and he also had $75 in cash on him. He will be arraigned this morning on drug trafficking and distribution charges.

Later in the evening at approximately 10:30pm detectives located the Buick in the area of Wamsutta and No. Front Street and took the female into custody. She is identified as Sandra Carter and will also be arraigned this morning in New Bedford district court on possession and conspiracy charges.
