“On June 2nd, detectives assigned to the ‘Organized Crime Intelligence Bureau’ observed NATHAN CORMIER, 29, of 126 Thompson St. travelling in a vehicle from New Bedford to Fairhaven. Detectives knew CORMIER to have an active felony warrant out of Bristol Superior Court.

After a period of surveillance, detectives attempted to stop the vehicle in the area of Sconticut Neck Rd. and Huttleston Ave. Upon doing so, CORMIER shifted into reverse striking an unmarked cruiser and a light pole in the process. He then shifted into drive, struck a second cruiser, and fled the scene in an effort to escape. CORMIER traveled recklessly and at a high rate of speed as he led officers on a pursuit which lasted over 4 miles before spinning out of control and stopping in the shrubbery of a Fairhaven residence.

As detectives approached the vehicle and attempted to remove CORMIER and a passenger, he continually attempted to accelerate, causing the tires to spin in place. CORMIER and his passenger were eventually secured and placed into custody. The passenger was identified as ANDREW SIMUEL, 28, of Pompano Beach, Florida.

Upon further investigation, the men were found to be in possession of over 38 grams of cocaine and a small amount of Percocet. Both men were charged with trafficking in cocaine in excess of 36 grams and conspiracy to violate the controlled substance laws.

CORMIER was additionally charged with failing to stop for police, reckless operation of a motor vehicle and 3 counts of A&B on police officers.

NATHAN CORMIER has an extensive criminal history with convictions for a variety of offenses including assault and battery, firearm possession and possession of narcotics with intent to distribute. At the time of this arrest, he had an open case in Bristol Superior Court stemming from a fentanyl trafficking arrest in 2020.

The lead investigator was Det. D. Frenette.
