City of New Bedford opens up five “cooling stations” for high temperatures

Cooling centers are meant to prevent hyperthermia caused by heat, humidity, and poor air quality. Cooling centers provide shade, water, and restrooms; medical attention and referrals to social services may also be offered.

“COOLING STATIONS at New Bedford Free Public Library locations.

Due to this week’s high temperatures through Wednesday, cooling stations will be open in New Bedford at the libraries, with usual hours. All five libraries are open regular hours this week.

* Main Library – 613 Pleasant Street – Open Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
* Casa Da Saudade – 58 Crapo Street – Open Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The Howland-Green Branch Library, Lawler Branch Library, and Wilks Branch Library are open Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

* Howland-Green Branch Library – 3 Rodney French Blvd
* Lawler Branch Library- 745 Rockdale Avenue
*Wilks Branch Library – 1911 Acushnet Avenue”
