“NEW BEDFORD – Police have seized weapons from a convicted felon in the south end.
This week, Officer Brandon Duarte, a patrol officer assigned to the south-end sector, cultivated information regarding a man who was illegally in possession of firearms. The man was identified as Mr. ALEXANDER LUIS REIS, 26, of 11 Sagamore St. REIS is a convicted felon and level 2 sex offender who is currently on probation out of Bristol County Superior Court.
Working with detectives from the department’s Organized Crime Intelligence Bureau, Ofc. Duarte concluded his investigation with a search warrant execution at the target’s address. On January 17th, at around 6 PM, REIS’ vehicle was stopped by detectives as it traveled in the west end. At the time of the stop, REIS was found to be in possession of a loaded 9MM handgun.
Detectives converged upon his Sagamore St. residence in order to conduct a search. As a result, an AR-15 rifle was located. Also discovered were numerous rounds of various calibers of ammunition including 22 caliber rounds, 9 MM rounds, and 12-gauge shotgun shells.
REIS was placed under arrest and stands charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license and illegal possession of a rifle and ammunition.
