37-year old Jose Freitas is wanted by police after he failed to appear for his arraignment earlier this month for at least the fourth time for allegedly driving while drunk in New Bedford. The defendant was arrested by state police on April 5th after he was observed impeding the flow of traffic on Rt. 195 by driving very slow.

After being pulled over he was unable to recite the alphabet, was unsteady on his feet, had slurred speech and smelled of alcohol.

An open bottle of vodka was found in the center console of his vehicle and several nips of whiskey were on his person.

The defendant fell asleep repeatedly while being booked at the state police barracks in Dartmouth.

The defendant was ordered to appear in court the next morning for his arraignment, but never showed up and has been on the lam ever since.

The defendant has at least three other drunk driving convictions on his record in Massachusetts, Georgia, and Florida. He was residing in Pawtucket, RI at the time of his arrest earlier this month.
