At approximately 1:00am this morning the New Bedford Fire Department responded to reports of a fire on Sidney Street.

Upon arrival, fire personnel discovered fire and heavy smoke emitting from the third floor of a tenement building. Residents in two nearby buildings were immediately evacuated.

Fire Chief Scott Kruger said “It’s a stubborn fire, they had a large volume of fire when they arrived, you can tell by the damage to the house. There’s exposure to both sides, the protected the exposures, there’s no damage to them, which is great. Fire is contained to the main fire building.”

The fire is currently being investigated by the New Bedford Fire Department and more details will be shared as they come in.
