On Wednesday afternoon, the New Bedford Fire Department responded to reports of a fire on Topham Street. A resident within the building had smelled smoke and then spotted flames outside the structure.

Upon arrival, fire crews saw the family in the process of evacuating the home. A family member told firefighters that the family dog was still in the house and firefighters had to go inside to rescue the pet.
