New Bedford Fire Department respond to Pleasant Street structure fire

Today at 10:13AM the New Bedford Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 1012 Pleasant Street. Command Unit 1 reported a heavy smoke condition with visible fire extending from the first floor southeast corner of the building. The structure is a wood frame three-family dwelling. The dwelling was protected by working smoke detectors and the tenants evacuated prior to our arrival.

Engines 1, 7, 8, Ladders 1 & 4 responded along with Command Units 1 & 2. Crews were able to extinguish the fire prior to any extension into the second floor. Crews were able to rescue two cats. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.
The American Red Cross assisted seven displaced tenants. NB Animal Control, NBEMS, and NBPD assisted on scene. The fire is being investigated by the NBFD Fire Investigation Unit.
