New Bedford Fire Department fire alarm activation at Titleist

“At 3:41am this morning, Communications received an automatic fire alarm activation for Titleist located at 256 Samuel Barnett Blvd.

Command Unit 1 was notified en route of a fire in a large piece of machinery. Upon arrival there was visible smoke emitting from a rooftop vent. Engine 5 confirmed a fire in a hopper style machine, stretched hoselines, and with the assistance of Ladder 4 extinguished the fire with no extension.

The remaining crews of Engine 7, Engine 9, and Ladder 4 conducted exterior operations which included securing a water supply, manning the fire department connection (FDC), and rooftop operations. Dartmouth Fire District 3 responded as this portion of the Industrial Park is located in Dartmouth and both agencies share in protecting these facilities. The cause of the fire was accidental and was investigated by the NBFD Fire Investigation Unit and Dartmouth Fire District 3. There were no civilian or Fire Department injuries.

This was the second occurrence in three days where a properly functioning automatic fire alarm system notified the Fire Department of a fire an industrial occupancy. We often stress the importance of properly functioning alarm systems in residential settings, but they are equally important in business/manufacturing occupancies as early notification allows for safe evacuation of employees, minimizes property damage, and prevents interruption or shutting down of business.”-New Bedford Fire Department.
