New Bedford awarded $1 million from the Department of Transportation

Today, Congressman Bill Keating is announcing that five airports in the Ninth Congressional District have been awarded over $12 million in grants from the Department of Transportation (DOT).

“Our local airports are critical to the economic success of our district, and on the Islands, for the residents to be able to travel safely and quickly,” said Congressman Keating. “The amount of funds awarded to our district is a major win for our airports and all of our surrounding communities. In particular, New Bedford and the South Coast will see great benefit as New Bedford Airport seeks to expand its commercial carriers and routes.”

“This grant award could not come at a better time for New Bedford Regional Airport, with the airport’s recent 139 Certification allowing for expanded commercial air service, and a major strategic planning exercise underway,” said New Bedford Mayor Jon Mitchell. “We are grateful to the Federal Aviation Administration for this vote of confidence in the airport’s future and the support of Congressman Keating.”
