New Bedford Detectives are investigating two similar robberies that happened over the weekend within a ½ mile of each other. In both cases the victims were approached from behind, put in a headlock by one of the suspects, while the second suspect went through the pockets taking cash. None of the victims were injured.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective William Westgate at 508-991-6300 ext. 79516 or leave an anonymous tip at 508-99CRIME. (27463).

The first happened on Friday morning at approximately 10:30am when an 82 yr. old male was robbed from behind while walking in the 100 block of Deane St. The victim could not describe his assailants.

However, a witness nearby described them as in their early 20’s, short, and light-skinned with one of them wearing a red shirt and the other a white one.

Then on Saturday evening at approximately 9pm in the 300 block of North Front St. a 29 yr. old New Bedford man was robbed in a similar fashion. Two males approached from behind and put the victim in a headlock while the other one went through his pockets taking cash. He was only able to describe them as young and possibly Hispanic.
