NBPD arrest man for September shooting in south end of New Bedford

The New Bedford Police Department released a statement regarding an arrest made in connection with a shooting in the south end of New Bedford.

“NEW BEDFORD – Major Crime detectives have placed a man under arrest in connection with a south-end shooting. On September 10th, just before midnight, patrol units responded to a “ShotSpotter” notification of shots fired in the area of South First. and Delano St.

The incident was further investigated by Detective Brian Rei. Det. Rei was able to determine that the occupants of two separate vehicles exchanged gunfire with each other on that night. One of the shooters was identified as Mr. LUIS VASQUEZ, 29, of New Bedford.

VASQUEZ was placed under arrest on September 21st and is being charged with discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building and malicious damage to a motor vehicle.

“We continue to see our patrol officers and detectives placing the utmost importance in the investigation of these shooting incidents. Their diligence and professionalism are reflective of the work being performed on a daily basis to keep the city safe. As always, I am proud of our officers, and I encourage the partnership of the community in providing us with as much information as possible when violent crime occurs. ”
