New Bedford High School to host college planning events in March/April

New Bedford High School’s College and Career Readiness Family Engagement Center, in collaboration with Educational Talent Search, College Access, GEAR UP and the Massachusetts Educational Financing Authority (MEFA), is hosting several events to assist students and families with college exploration, planning, and admissions.

March schedule of events includes:

Financial Aid Seminar for Seniors – Wednesday, March 18 at 6 p.m. in the NBHS College and Career Family Engagement Center, Room B-211. NBHS students and families seeking assistance with applying for financial aid (FAFSA) are encouraged to join us. The same workshop with Spanish and Portuguese Creole language support will be held on Thursday, March 19, at 6 p.m. in the NBHS College and Career Family Engagement Center. Workshops begin promptly at 6 p.m. Guests should enter through the Main Office doors located on Hathaway Boulevard.

April schedule of events includes:

NBHS Early College Planning Night for Freshmen and Sophomores – Thursday, April 2, at 6 p.m. in the NBHS College and Career Family Engagement Center, Room B-211. This workshop will empower students and families to get a jump start on the requirements for the college admission process. The same workshop with Spanish and Portuguese Creole language support will be held on Tuesday, April 7, at 6 p.m. in the NBHS College and 2

Career Family Engagement Center. These workshops also begin promptly at 6 p.m. and guests should enter through the Main Office doors.

“I encourage New Bedford students and families who are seeking guidance in navigating the college planning process to attend these events,” said Superintendent Pia Durkin. “The NBHS staff and our partners who help to prepare students for college are a resource that families can use when planning their students’ next steps.”

“Families planning ahead for college admissions, financial aid and other aspects of the college application process should take advantage of these events held right here at New Bedford High,” said acting Headmaster Bernadette Coelho.

Director of Educational Talent Search Elizabeth Connelly-Sylvia said, “These events are an excellent opportunity for students and their families to learn more about the college planning, admissions, and financial aid process. Additionally, families who attend will be offered free ongoing assistance through the entire process.”
