Murder Charge Brought in Connection to June 27th Taunton Homicide

Lorenze C. DaVeiga has been charged with murder in connection to the June 27th slaying of 24-year-old Marques McCassie.

Bristol County District Attorney Tom Quinn announced today that Lorenze C. DaVeiga, 19, previously of 7 Lowell Street, Taunton, has been charged with murder in connection to the June 27th slaying of 24-year-old Marques McCassie in Taunton.

Mr. Daveiga–who is also being charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition–will be arraigned on the murder charge today in Taunton District Court.

The investigation into the homicide was coordinated by Co-First Assistant District Attorney Patrick O. Bomberg, and was conducted jointly by State Police Detectives assigned to this office and Taunton Police detectives.

Taunton Police received 911 calls around 5:44 pm on June 27th regarding multiple gunshots in the area of Weir Street. Four individuals were injured from gunshot wounds and transported to nearby hospitals.

One of the individuals, Marques McCassie, 24, was transported to Morton Hospital where he was later pronounced dead around 6:40 pm.
