“Today we laid to rest Trooper Robert H. Whittier, proud wearer of Badge #1, signifying the longest-serving active duty member of our Department.

A member of the Massachusetts State Police since 1974, he had served in the Motorcycle Unit since 1992, a calling that saw him participate in hundreds if not thousands of security operations and dignitary protection missions. At the time of his passing last week, he had served our Commonwealth and its citizens for 47 years.

The outpouring of condolences upon Trooper Whittier’s passing is testimony to the respect and admiration he earned over nearly a half-century of service to others. Trooper Whittier’s funeral was held at Grace Chapel in Lexington this morning.

Hail and farewell, faithful brother, and may God’s peace be upon you. Rest easy, Badge 1. We have the watch from here.” -Massachusetts State Police.
