“The United States flag made famous in Thomas E. Franklin’s “Raising the Flag at Ground Zero” photo from September 11, 2001 was raised at the Southampton Fire Department yesterday afternoon.

Three New York City Fire Department (FDNY) Firefighters; William Eisengrein, George Johnson and Daniel McWilliams, hoisted the Stars and Stripes at Ground Zero shortly after lower Manhattan was devastated by the attacks on 9/11.

Massachusetts State Trooper Patrick Clayton and K-9 Bijou from the Fire & Explosion Investigation Unit assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s office were there to honor the flag and its history, while remembering the 343 firefighters that died in the Trade Center disaster, along with 23 New York City and 37 Port Authority police officers and six medical rescue workers.
