Massachusetts State Police investigating fatal crash in Marlborough

A two-car crash on Route 290 in Marlborough at about 7:15 this morning resulted in the death of a Connecticut man.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper John Haidousis indicates that a 24-year-old Lowell man was traveling on Route 290 Eastbound in the area of Exit 26 in a 2016 Subaru Impreza when his vehicle rear-ended a 2011 Ford Escape, causing that vehicle to enter the median and roll over.

The operator of the Ford Escape, Lee Johnson, 55, of Oakdale, Connecticut, was transported to UMass Memorial Hospital in Worcester where he was subsequently pronounced deceased. Two of his passengers, a 22-year-old female and a 14-year-old male, were also transported to UMass Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The operator of the Subaru was transported to Marlborough Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The cause of this crash remains under investigation with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, Crime Scene Services Section, and troopers assigned to the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office. No charges have been filed at this time.

State Police were assisted on scene by Marlborough Fire and EMS and MassDOT.
