Massachusetts State Police arrest two in Chicopee for firearm and narcotics violations

On Saturday evening, at approximately 11:18 p.m., Trooper Dane Jobst, who is assigned to the State Police – Springfield Barracks, was on patrol of I-391 Southbound in the city of Chicopee, when he stopped a BMW sedan for motor vehicle violations.

The vehicle was occupied by four occupants. After a brief investigation, with the assistance of Troopers Elliot Scibelli, Cory Hetu and Patrick Dolan, two passengers were identified as JEAN C. RIOS RIVERA, 20, and EDUARDO MALDONADO AROCHO, 24, both of Springfield, were found to be in possession of a loaded .40 caliber pistol, with no identifiable markings. Neither licensed to carry firearms. In addition to the firearm, both men were found to be in possession of 40 bags of heroin, five Oxycodone pills, and a sum of U.S. currency.

Both men were placed into custody and transported to the State Police Springfield Barracks for booking.

Both were charged with the following:
1. Possession/carrying a firearm;
2. Carrying a loaded firearm;
3. Possession of a firearm without FID card;
4. Possess to distribute Class A drug (heroin); and
5. Possess Class B drug (oxycodone).

MALDONADO AROCHO was bailed on $1,000 and RIOS RIVERA was held on $10,000 bail and subsequently transported to the Hampshire County House of Correction pending their arraignment in Chicopee District Court.
