Massachusetts exit sign collapses onto interstate roadway

image_pdfimage_print

At approximately 7:00am on Tuesday, Massachusetts police responded to reports that one of the state’s large green, exit signs had fallen over into the roadway on Interstate 190 southbound just prior to exit 1.

First responders along with MassDOT engineers arrived to see the sign obstructing traffic in the far right and middle travel lanes forcing traffic on the southbound side to be detoured. Engineers removed the sign from the roadway and travel lanes were reopened at approximately 9:00am.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported and no damage to any vehicles.

The incident has triggered a structural review by the MassDot on all overhead sign supports along the I-190 corridor.
