“On the afternoon of Monday, October 17, 2022, opening day of deer archery season, Massachusetts Environmental Police Officers encountered an individual in a tree stand over bait, targeting deer with archery equipment.

This same area was found baited prior to the start of hunting season this year, as well as last year; however, no one was located within the vicinity. The small hunting area was further observed to have 14 cellular game cameras located along the roadway where the stand was situated, as well as along nearby trails and around two additional tree stands.

The investigation also revealed photographic evidence documenting the same individual spreading molasses and solid mineral baits several times before and during the 2022 September bear season. The hunter was subsequently charged with hunting deer over bait, hunting bear over bait, and unlawful possession of another’s license/tags.” -Massachusetts Environmental Police.
