Massachusetts State Troopers arrest three for trafficking narcotics

Just after 2 a.m. Saturday morning Trooper Brandon Andrews was traveling on Route 91 Northbound in Whately, exiting at the Exit 24 off ramp, when he observed a Subaru Legacy fail to yield at the bottom of the ramp. He activated his cruiser’s blue lights and stopped the vehicle.

Upon the vehicle stopping Trooper Andrews approached the driver’s side window and identified the operator as AMANDA WILKINS, 32, of Poultny, Vt. After some conversation Trooper Andrews returned to his cruiser with WILKINS’ license and registration. While he was conducting inquiries of her information he observed the rear seat passenger, identified as ASHELY OLSZOWY, 28, of Troy, N.Y., moving around strangely, crouching down out of view of Trooper Andrews. OLSZOWY then switched positions from behind the driver’s seat to behind the front passenger’s seat.

Trooper Andrews was in fear that OLSZOWY may have been reaching for a weapon and as such he immediately approached the vehicle again to remove her from the rear seat. While OLSZOWY exited the vehicle Trooper Andrews noticed several small wax bags containing a brown substance believed to be heroin fall out of her pockets. He secured her in the rear of his cruiser and requested assistance. Trooper Edward Bullock arrived a short time later and they removed WILKINS along with the front seat passenger, identified as THOMAS MAYER, 32, of Bennington, V.t.

Upon all occupants exiting the vehicle Trooper Andrews searched the area he observed OLSZOWY reaching around. He located a brown bag containing additional small wax bags with a substance believed to be heroin inside. Trooper Andrews also located two plastic baggies each containing a large amount of a substance believed to be crack cocaine. Both bags together contained approximately 24 grams of crack cocaine. There were a total of 197 wax bags located, each with a varying amount of heroin inside.

All three occupants were then placed under arrest and transported to the Northampton Barracks for booking. WILKINS and MAYER each had a bail amount of $10,000 set while OLSZOWY had a bail amount of $1,500 set. They were transported to Hampshire County Jail where they were held until their arraignment today at Greenfield District Court on the following charges:

AMANDA WILKINS:

Trafficking in Cocaine;
Possession of Class A Drug with Intent to Distribute;
Conspiracy to Violate Drug Laws; and
Failure to Yield.

THOMAS MAYER:

Trafficking in Cocaine;
Possession of Class A Drug with Intent to Distribute; and
Conspiracy to Violate Drug Laws.

ASHLEY OLSZOWY

Trafficking in Cocaine;
Possession of Class A Drug with Intent to Distribute;
Conspiracy to Violate Drug Laws; and
Failure to Wear Seat Belt.
