Massachusetts officials force Alford farm to surrender 18 sick horses in animal cruelty case

“An animal cruelty investigation that broke last Friday in Alford, Mass. is ongoing, but for now the animals involved are safe after 18 horses arrived at Nevins Farm this week.

Many of the newly arrived horses are sick with contagious respiratory illnesses and will require strict quarantine, but our teams are already tending to their needs.

This is the largest single surrender of horses in at least the last five years – the operation ahead of the horses’ arrival involved one of the fastest repositioning of large animals in Nevins Farm history! Our hardworking staff came together to create safe quarantine spaces for these horses. On top of that, we were able to find adoptive or foster homes for 10 horses who were already on the property (shoutout to NHSPCA for helping!). We are so grateful for the community’s ongoing support so that we can step up for the animals who need us most ?

This surrender comes at a time of year when resources are depleted from caring for *thousands* of animals in the last 350+ days. We are in urgent need of donations at a time of year when the animals need it most. Anyone who wishes to donate can do so at mspca.org/alford.” -MSPCA-Alford.
