On August 5th, 2017, the Rochester, NH Police Department was called in regards to a child locked in a vehicle in the parking lot of Walmart. Upon the officer’s arrival, he found that a 2-year-old male was inside a parked vehicle alone. The passenger door was accessed by the officer as it was held in place by only a bungee cord. The officer removed the crying child from the vehicle.

The investigation revealed that Leo Ellis, age 35 of Rochester, had his 2-year-old son for the weekend and had driven to Walmart where he parked in the parking lot. He left the child in the vehicle alone and went into the store for about 40 minutes. He returned from the store with merchandise and was subsequently arrested for Endangering the Welfare of a Child or Incompetent.

While on-scene, the child was placed in the custody of his biological mother, who is not married to Ellis and who resides elsewhere. Ellis was released on $5000 PR bail.
