“Yesterday on the corner of Eugenia St. and Acushnet Ave. 2 Narcotic detectives hopped out of there car without identifying themselves and tackled me to the ground. I thought I was being jumped. They yelled to “Not fucking move and don’t resist”. They thought I had made a play they were watching out for. The held me on the ground, forearm on my face running my pockets. I had just picked up Nasirs meds at the pharmacy. I kept repeating myself. “I didn’t do anything. I was just picking up my son’s meds. Check my receipt. Please ask the pharmacy tech. I swear”. They told me I “If you got anything how’s the time to give it up so where it is?” As they threw all my belongings to the ground and ran my pockets. As they radioed to ask if I fit the description the guy radioed back “You’re on the wrong block.” A case of mistaken identity. The officers yelled “Fuck. Shit” I was uncuffed, they dropped all my stuff on the ground and just got in there car and left me there.
I wondered after what would have happened if I was carrying a legal weapon?
Or if I was an autistic adult?
While this isn’t a case of racial profiling it was illegal none the less and my rights were violated. I am shook. I am sad. I wanted y’all to know to be aware of your surrounding x1000000000.” – Hendrick Hernandez
We have reached out to the New Bedford Police Department for comment and their public information officer stated he is looking into it.
