Lt. Nathaniel Rodriguez named new public information officer for New Bedford Police Department

The New Bedford Police Department is proud to announce that Lt. Nathaniel Rodriguez has been named the department’s new public information officer and administrative assistant to the chief’s office.

He replaces Capt. Ricard Rezendes, who was promoted to captain and is station commander at Station 2.

Lt. Rodriguez has worked for the New Bedford Police Department for 14 years. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2013, where his assignments including working in professional standards for a year before being promoted to Lieutenant in June 2017.

Lt. Rodriguez worked in uniform patrol and then was named director of training before being named the administrative assistant and public information officer effective Sunday, Jan. 28.

Lt. Rodriguez is a native of New Bedford and a graduate of New Bedford High School. He speaks Spanish fluently.

 Chief Joseph Cordeiro had high praise for Lt. Rodriguez. “I have worked with Lt. Rodriguez in a variety of assignments and have seen firsthand his commitment and passion to our community. I have high expectations that he will continue to perform exceptionally in serving the department and our community.”

 “I’m excited to have the opportunity to be in this position,” Lt. Rodriguez said. “I’m looking forward to this latest chapter in my career.”
