“The first crash occurred on Bedford Street at Taunton, involving 3 vehicles. Car 1, Car 2, Ambulance 3, and Engine 1 responded. Shortly after arrival at the first crash, a second crash was reported on Rt 44.

Car 1 diverted to that scene with Ambulance 2 and Engine 1. Recalled responders put Engine 2 into service, replacing Engine 1 at the first scene.

An additional 3 ambulances were summoned to the Rt 44 crash, which was found to involve 3 vehicles. At least two of the vehicles collided head-on.

A total of 5 patients were transported from both accidents. Hospital destinations were Morton, Good Sam, and Rhode Island Hospital. At least 2 patients suffered significant injuries.

Chief O’Brien would like to commend his firefighters for their management of a chaotic 30 minutes; they performed at a high level.

The chief also appreciated the mutual aid assistance from the Town of Middleborough and the Raynham Fire Department.

Lakeville and Middleborough Police Departments provided scene safety at both locations, completely shutting down Rt 44 for a period of time.

Please drive safe this holiday season!” -Lakeville Fire Department.
